Rain on your Wedding Day - Clare + AJ at Green Gables Estates in San Diego, CAAll this rain we've been having lately reminded me of a wedding I did back in November where it not only rained...it POURED! The setting was picturesque Green Gables Estates up in North County San Diego. A vintage schoolhouse dating back to 1889, their English Garden lawns boast sweeping trees and beautiful rose bushes. It was pretty cloudy that morning, but seemed like everything was actually going to be ok. We squeezed in a quick first look out in the garden, and everything at the ceremony site was setup and ready to go. Then suddenly, minutes before the ceremony was set to begin, the rain came down... in buckets! Our lovely Bride Clare seemed a bit distraught at first, but quickly took it all in stride. They say rain on your wedding day is good luck, after all, so Clare + AJ are certainly in for one long and happy marriage! Thanks to the quick thinking and resourcefulness of the coordinator and floral designer, an arch was quickly erected under the chiffon tent reception area, and the florals from the outdoor gazebo moved over and attached to it. It turned out beautiful and I was amazed how quickly they had been able to turn it all around. People sometimes worry that having a "first look" will somehow detract from the authenticity of the moment when the Groom sees his Bride walking down the isle. That could not be further from the truth, and AJ definitely proved my point. This military man released the most genuine tears of joy when he saw Clare being escorted to meet him, and the rest of us followed suit! I don't know what it is, but I cannot get through a single wedding without crying myself, at least once! I just love the sentimentality of it all...emotions run so high on wedding day, and rightfully so! (In fact, last time I shot at Green Gables, I shared a weepy moment with Mother of the Bride during Father-daughter dance... after I got some killer shots first of course.) Once we were all done crying, haha, there was nothing but smiles and long, loving gazes from these two the rest of the night. Their love is truly swoon-worthy! A big thank you to Courtney Welden for bringing me in on this one.. head over to her site to see more!

Such a lovely setting for a beautiful wedding, which you captured beautifully. I love your story about how the bride took the rain all in stride. She will have quite a tale to tell her kids someday.
Thank you for sharing this! I love reading about stories like this and that despite the rain, the couple knew they were there for each other and a little rain shouldn't affect what is to be the happiest day of their lives. The photos are absolutely stunning by the way. I am obsessed with them. xo
